Salt Lake Bees

The Salt Lake Bees in action!
When Daddy loves baseball, a visit to an American ballpark is high on the priority list after living a couple of years in China!

So, the first chance my nephew Daniel got, he brought his family to the Spring Mobile Ballpark to see a game.

Spring Mobile Ballpark offers a scenic view of the spectacular Wasatch Mountains.  But I doubt they paid very much attention to that!

The Salt Lake Bees is the name of the Utah team, and they've been representing the Beehive State at the Triple-A level of baseball since the new field opened in 1994.  However their history goes back much farther.  "Poosh'um up" Tony Lazzeri, the future Hall of Famer, hit 60 homeruns for the Bees during the 1925 season - 2 years before Babe Ruth's similar feat for the Yankees.  (I hope my brother is proud of me for looking up that statistic!)

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are the Bees Major League affiliate.

Salt Lake's Spring Mobile Ballpark opened in 1994.  It was the late Larry H. Miller who teamed with then-owner Joe Buzas to build this new ballpark in Salt Lake City.  Miller loved baseball and wanted to bring a professional team back to Utah.

Before the new park could be built, old Derks Field - a Utah classic - had to be demolished.  Amazingly, the residents of the neighborhood around the old field got behind the efforts and were pleased to have a new park in the neighborhood.

Sounds like they had a fun time at the Ball game.  I hope they bought peanuts and Crackerjack!
