The Arizona Desert

The mighty Saguaro cacti stand as sentinels on the valley floor
I thought we needed a break from yesterday's snow and ice, so today we're going to take a winter vacation to Arizona!

The Sonora Desert can be a very beautiful place - particularly at this time of year, when it's not so excruciatingly hot.

It's dust in the sky that makes it go all orange like that.  What wonderful colors!  It's breathtaking, isn't it?

The desert is actually teeming with life and all kinds of interesting vegetation, like the cholla bush in the foreground on the right, below.

If you ever get a chance to visit the Sonora Desert Museum outside of Tucson, Arizona, go!  It's a wonderful place that will make the desert come alive for you.  Once you've taken a tour of that wonderful place, you will never view the desert in the same way again.
