All My Sons

Director Roxanne Barker, surrounded by the cast of All My Sons
As a Whittier Community Theatre season ticket holder, I feel it my duty to put in an occasional plug for our local theatre arts.  Community Theatre is an excellent place to learn and develop talents of all kinds, from acting to directing to working backstage in various capacities.

Whittier, California has the unique distinction of having the oldest community theatre west of the Rockies, and it is currently in its 91st season of entertaining Southern California audiences.

Playwright Arthur Miller is probably best known for his play Death of a Salesman.. and for being briefly married to Marilyn Monroe.  All My Sons, set in post World War II suburban America, is a powerful look at the concepts of honor, integrity, and family.  (We, as a society, don't talk much about honor or integrity any more, have you noticed?)  This is a deep and thought-provoking play, and the Community Theatre does a fine job of bringing this American classic to life.

The Whittier Community Theatre has only two performances left of this production.  Performances tonight and Saturday night begin at 8 p.m., tickets are available at the box office, or on-line through Goldstar.
