Stormy Weather!

So I've tried
really
really
tried,
to
get this
post
to not
look
squished
but
am
clueless
as
to
how
to
stop it from doing what it's doing.
My boss was out in the field taking pictures the other day for a project we're doing. I thought the sky was so spectacular that I needed to share these images with my friends!
These shots were taken in the Burbank area during a lull in storm fronts

yesterday afternoon
(Wednesday, January 20, 2010).
We got another storm raging through the area today. I mean, really raging. It was cool to watch out my office window.
However, at one point the water was pooling so much on the patio outside my office window I thought we ought to get one of the engineers to draft plans for an ark and have the rest of us start gathering animals two by two!
I love the rain - love the way it washes off the dust and makes the colors pop. I love that the air smells fresh and clean. However, I must confess I prefer to experience rain storms from the cosiness of my warm and dry living room. With a cup of hot chocolate. And a good book. And a comforter wrapped around me.

We actually had reports of hail pounding the north side of the office complex this afternoon! The wind was pretty wild, too. And, of course, for an area with a Mediterranean climate, and one that isn't used to storms like this, having four in a row has really created some havoc. Mud slides, flooding, roofs collapsing, cars stranded in flood waters, you know, the usual stuff, is happening. Can't wait to see the news tonight. My heart goes out to folks who have been evacuated from areas threatened because of their proximity to burn areas.
I'm lucky my office sits on a hill. Even so, the parking garage had a river running through it last night when I went to get my car! That was a first. And my apartment is also safe - in an older neighborhood and on high ground.
It's supposed to continue raining through Friday. I'm going to enjoy it while I can!

It's real purty, too.
Keep in mind I spent a good deal of my formative years living in a desert. It makes me a rain junkie.

Christmas Magic

I've been meaning to post about the thrill of visiting the happiest place on earth during the Christmas season and keep forgetting to do ti!

On a Tuesday in mid-December, some friends and I ventured to Anaheim. I had never been to Disneyland during the holiday season, and it just blew me away how beautifully it was decorated!

The fairytale castle was gorgeous - all blue and white and dipped in what appeared to be snow and icicles. As the weather was in the 60s during the day and maybe dipping to the high 40s at night, I was pretty sure it wasn't real, but the magical illusion of an ice castle. You go, imagineers!

The huge tree in the main street square was lovely and HUGE. (Did I mention is was hu-normous?) I got excited about all the lights in the trees and the attention to detail. I am not a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas (shudder), but I still found the Christmas changes to the Haunted Maansion to be charming and, well... festive.

I had just come from work and was tired and hungry, yet we still managed to find dinner, visit the Haunted Mansion and ride both the Indiana Jones and Astro-Blasters attractions! I also got to watch the fireworks (awesome!) and still got home before midnight.

I am now a big fan of Disney at Christmas time. It reminds me that I have to go more often for my mental health... oh yes, and only 351 days until Christmas comes around again.

California Crew Holiday Party 2009-2010

Meet Abdul and the crazy ladies.. the secret agent, the whacky, the creative, the kind, the bright and articulate - and the fun! I love my friends. We may do Christmas a little late, but we do it right! Wouldn't trade that!

Good food, lots of presents. I love my friends. Happy New Year!

My sweet little girl

Emily,

You have been gone too long.

It's just not fair!

I look 'round corners and still expect you there.

I can't believe it's been two months already. Two whole months!

I miss you every morning. You would wake me every day and I couldn't be upset with you, even though you never took "no" for an answer! It was impossible to be unhappy with you, Miss Cuteness.,

I miss coming home to my little sweetheart. You always came running to the door when I came home. Now the house seems unbearably empty.
Emily, you were such a blessing in my life. You are impossible to replace - there just isn't anyone like you!
I hope you are having fun chasing butterflies in heaven and playing with all the other angel kitties there.
I know you didn't like it when I was sad, so I promise I am doing better. I'm not crying every single day. Still, a day doesn't pass that I don't think of you and miss you terribly.
I looking forward to seeing you again.
Love you, Baby. Love you forever.
