Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, is a shariden - or Zen Buddhist hall containing the relics of Buddha. It is located in northern Kyoto.
The top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf.
My silly neighbor writes: "I spent most of my time there trying to figure out how to get a hunk of the wall to take home."
Of course, he was kidding. I think.
Known as the Temple of the Golden Pavilion, and also the "Deer Garden Temple", this beautiful structure attracts tons of tourists every year.
The Golden Pavilion is set into a truly beautiful garden. The rock composition, the bridges and plants are all arranged a specific way to represent famous places in Chinese and Japanese literature.
It is truly a beautiful place.
Have a terrific Monday, everyone!
